CHAMP will provide a challenging experience for mathematically gifted students.
Description
CHAMP is a regional program for students highly gifted in mathematics.
Student selection is based on the College Board SAT I Reasoning Test scores, the
age, and/or grade level at which these scores were achieved, the availability of
appropriate alternative programs in the student's home school district, geographical
considerations, previous school records and the algebra placement score.
This accelerated program allows students to complete the traditional four year high
school mathematics program in two years.
CHAMP is available to students in Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, and Shiawassee Intermediate
School Districts.
The program is funded by local and intermediate school districts, parents, the W.B.
and Candace Thoman Foundation, the Dart Foundation and Michigan State University.
Students meet on Thursday afternoons each week for two and one-half hours on the
Michigan State University campus.
Eligibility
A student must have an SAT score in Math equal to or greater than 530 and an SAT
Total of 1010 or above.
OR
A Math ACT score equal to or greater than 21 and a composite of 23.
Information Session
A CHAMP information session is held each year in April on the MSU campus. The purpose
of this session is to introduce the CHAMP program and recruit new students for the
2008/09 year. Interested eligible students and parents are welcome. For 2008/09,
this session will be April 20, 2008, 2:00pm to 3:30pm in B108 Wells.

and the Intermediate School Districts and in-kind support from MSU cover the remaining cost of the program.
Upon acceptance into CHAMP, each student pays an initial $25 reservation fee confirming intent to participate. The cost per student: $475 -- paid either by the local district,
the parents, or a combination of the two.
