CSI Forensic Science Program
About
The CSI Forensic Science Crime Scene Program at Michigan State University is a one-week day camp or residential program. The curriculum is intended for academically able students who are currently in grades 7, 8 and 9 and at least 12 years old. All students will be working in a university setting with professionals who work in the field of Forensic Science.
Forensic Science is the application of science for the purposes of law. Students, through a variety of educational presentations and hands-on experiences, will learn how their acquired scientific knowledge can be applied to criminal investigation. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to apply their creativity and investigative skills working as a CSI with real crime scene equipment on several mock crime scenes.
Residential students will be housed in a residential hall on the campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. The program enrollment is limited to 50 students.
Eligibility
Students must be currently in grades 7, 8 or 9 for the 2009-2010 school year and a minimum of 12 years old. They must also meet the following criteria:
- Provide documentation of strong standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, Michigan Merit Exam for instate students)
- GPA of 3.5 or above.
- Have a positive Teacher Recommendation from a current teacher.
- Have a strong interest in science.
Cost
The day camp program cost of $999 includes the following:
- All instruction
- Lunches (Monday-Friday) and dinner (Friday)
- Supervision
- Course materials and supplies
- T-shirt
- NOTE: Day campers can only participate in the College Night Activities, all other evening recreational activities do not include day campers
The residential program cost of $1,127 includes the following:
- All instruction
- Evening recreational activities
- Residential housing, meals, and supervision
- Course materials and supplies
- T-shirt
Costs Not Covered:
Transportation to and from Michigan State University is not covered. Parents/guardians must arrange for the student to arrive at the campus for the check-in on the Sunday the program begins. They must also arrange for the student to leave the campus after the closing program on Friday, the last day of the program.
Any transportation, supervision, housing and food costs from students arriving early or leaving late will be charged to the parents/guardians. Program costs do not include personal spending money, and while students are encouraged to bring snacks there are vending machines available in the dormitory lobby.
Transportation
For Day Campers:
Day Campers must be dropped off Monday-Friday at Holmes Hall at 8:45am and picked up at the hall at 5pm.
