Stellar Studies

A class of astronomical proportions! What are stars? Where do they come from? We’ll look into the evolution of the most amazing things in the night sky, illuminating our understanding of the vast topics and give a glimpse into some of astronomy’s coolest secrets such as red shift, spectroscopy, and more.

Monday - Solar Systems and Galaxies
Tuesday - Life Cycle of a Star
Wednesday - Analyzing Stars from Afar
Thursday - Dying Stars and Stranger Things
Friday - Abrams Planetarium (We Are Stars)

Exponents – Math That Grows Fast

What happens when numbers grow fast? Students will investigate exponential growth, learn how scientists write very big and very small numbers using scientific notation, and solve puzzles that show how quickly numbers can change. Instead of memorizing formulas, students will ask questions, look for patterns, and explain their thinking as they uncover the math behind fast-growing numbers. This class builds strong problem-solving skills and prepares students for future algebra adventures.

Monday - Powers and repeated multiplication patterns
Tuesday - Exponent rules through pattern discovery
Wednesday - Zero, negative exponents, and “What makes sense?” problems
Thursday - Scientific notation and very big/small numbers
Friday - Exponential growth puzzles + real-world modeling challenge
