GUPPY Description

GUPPY is designed for young gifted and talented students to attend classes taught by MSU faculty and staff at Michigan State University for the weekend. This GATE program will offer young gifted students a variety of accelerated exploratory educational presentations and hands-on experiences in MSU’s laboratories and classrooms. Please see the different class track options on the GUPPY Curriculum page (GUPPY 3-4 Curriculum, and 5-6 GUPPY Curriculum). Each track has a variety of STEAM-based classes. Participants will eat lunch in the MSU dining halls (except no lunch for the program June 28 - July 2, 2021). On the last day of the program, a closing ceremony will celebrate the GUPPY experience for students and parents.

Commuter option: Local families commute daily by dropping off and picking up their student each day from campus.

Hotel stay option: For out of town families for GUPPY, GATE will provide a list of local hotels for GUPPY families and will be distributed after the student is accepted into the program. Families are responsible for the cost of their hotel stay.

Parent "U" Day - Saturday, July 10, 2021

Parents, save the date! You are invited to attend GUPPY’s Parent University, which provides informational presentations conducted by gifted experts. Various topics related to gifted education and raising a gifted child will be discussed. The presentations will focus on introductory and intermediate topics. Topics in the past have included: Gifted 101, Roadmap to Advocacy, IQ Testing, Spatial Learners and an expert panel.

In June of 2019, GUPPY students visited Alexandria's Nature Bus. This trip was funded by a grant offered by the Spirit of Alexandria Foundation, started in memory of Alexandria Bennett. The foundation's mission is connecting children to nature. For more information please visit www.spiritofalexandria.org
