MSTL: Math, Science, Technology, and Leadership

New in 2018! The Mathematics, Science, Technology, and Leadership (MSTL) program at Michigan State University is a two-week summer commuter or residential program for academically talented students who are currently in grades 9 or 10 during the 2017-2018 school year.
The MSTL program offers advanced curriculum in STEM areas, as well as a leadership workshop. Students will take two STEM-based classes that have been designed to stimulate students to learn about new developments in mathematics, science, and technology, and to explore related career fields. Students will also take one leadership workshop which will introduce them to concepts and skills required to be a leader in STEM fields. Students will be asked to rank their preference of topics when applying.
- To experience active learning, as students investigate problems that can be solved through a better understanding of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology
- To focus on an intensive area of study, allowing for interdisciplinary research using tools of mathematics, science, and technology
- To link the tools of many career fields, as focus is given to real world problems
July 8, 1:00-2:30 pm: Registration
July 8, 3:00-4:00 pm: MST@MSU Orientation for students, parents, faculty and staff
July 9-13 & 16-20: MST@MSU classes in session from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday – Friday for the two weeks of the program
July 14-15: Team building activities, field trip, and field games!
July 20, around 5:00 pm: Checkout of residence hall and Closing Ceremony
7:00 am: Wake up for residential students
7:45 am: Breakfast
8:20 - 8:35 am: Commuter students arrive at drop-off
8:50 am: Walk to class with RAs
9:00 - 11:00 am: Morning academic class
11:15 am - 12:15 pm: Lunch
12:30 - 2:30 pm: Afternoon academic class
3:00 - 5:00 pm: Workshop
5:00 - 5:15 pm: Walk to pick-up/dorms
5:15 - 5:30 pm: Commuter student pick-up*
5:15 - 6:15 pm: Dinner for residential students and extended day students
6:15 - 6:30 pm: Extended day commuter student pick-up*
6:30 - 9:30 pm: Group activity for residential students
10:00 pm: All students in rooms, preparation for the next day
10:30 pm: Lights out
* Parents cannot pick-up comuter students between 5:30 pm and 6:15 pm. Parents must adhere to pick-up time frames listed above.
